Água Marinha Dom Pedro

In the late 1980s, miners working in the hills of Pedra Azul, in the interior of Minas Gerais, encountered something none of them had ever seen before: a blue beryl crystal of absolutely monumental proportions. The rough block measured nearly 60 centimeters in length and weighed approximately 27 kilograms.

Aquamarine is a variety of the mineral beryl and owes its characteristic color to the presence of ferrous iron ions in its crystal structure. The intense blue-green hue of the Dom Pedro is the result of exceptional geological conditions in the Pedra Azul region, in the Jequitinhonha Valley.
